Friday 13th February – Sunday 15th May
Launch Event: Friday 13th February, 6pm – 7:30pm
Artist Talk: Hear from Lachlan as he discusses his exhibition during an informal artist talk and Q&A session, starting at 6:30pm on Friday 13th February.
Lachlan is a photographer: he explores the environment that surrounds him, through his camera lens. Inspired by history, psychology and sociology, Lachlan’s artistry considers the psychological experience of being in a certain place and time.
“This exhibition is a continuation of an ongoing body of work exploring ideas of space and the psychological effects of architecture, explored through the interiors of various churches around the country. Churches are particularly unique spaces in England because there is a mix of very old untouched buildings and new ones that have been built due to urbanisation or destruction in World War 2. The interiors of churches have a very specific air of solemn respect and stillness, even for non-believers, that I want to try and tangibly capture on photographic print. Additionally, it is interesting to see how the classical aspects of Christian architecture get replicated and adapted to modern styles, as anachronistic references to the mythology and tradition of the earlier history of the religion.
Interior spaces of all kinds can carry so much more emotion and memory compared to the outside world, especially considering their relative size. I think that is why an artwork depicting one room can have the same amount of impact and detail as a vast open landscape.”
