Rachel is a photographer. She draws on her own lived experience to explore cultural notions of femininity and the impact of poor mental health on young people today. The portraits she creates explore the ambiguity and complexity of expression and the emotions conveyed or concealed within.
“Being feminine can be a good thing as it can be expressive, but a women’s femininity can be used against her; labelled to a shallow, foolish and small-minded person whilst only being deemed worthy when her image is sexualised by men. I combat this by creating work to connect with who I am and draw inspiration from my experiences, in the hopes for my photography to have an emotional impact on the viewer.”
